WELCOME to THE 8 GATES
You've reached this page and we hope you are a role-player who wants to create a character to play in the 8 GATES.
There are two methods of the character creation, but these are actually two ends of a spectrum.
The first methodology is to download the GURPS lite rules and make a character. You can find a free down load under 'The Rule-set & General Gaming' thread under the 'Playing the Game' board. If you have GURPS 4th Edition, almost everything in that book will be acceptable as well, depending on the 'Starting Point' options in the 'World Board'.
You should browse through the current 'World Board' in the 'How To Play Category' to see if there's an existing 'Starting Point' that fits the character you think you want to play. This will have details around what tech-level, mana-level, and if there's any restrictions like staring point cost, or "no psionics". Unless otherwise specified, the default starting character point (CP) budget in THE 8 GATES is 75cp, with -35 in disadvantages/quirks. However, note that in some 'Starting Points' found in the 'World Board' it is possible that the moderator holds on to some 'latent' CPs for the character for later reveal at the proper story-appropriate time. Another option is for the player to choose to hold back some of their 75cp to be spent instantly during play.
If you want to play a character that doesn't fit into an existing 'Starting Point' please PM the Admin so it can be considered. It is possible to request a new 'Starting Point', or come up with an in-game reason your character might be starting far from home.
The second optional methodology is to just provide the admin with a description of what you want to play. This can be of various levels of detail, but the more detailed the story the better the final character will be tailored and the quicker you'll likely have the character created.
In either method above you should include as much of your character sheet statistics as you have created, as well as, and possibly even more important, are the details about your character and back-story. Good things to include in your write-up are;
If the GURPS character you create fits into a 'World Board' starting point then the Admin will create a Player Character and Chronicle thread for that character and assign a Narrator who will create an opening post in each thread for each character.
The FINE print

- WARNING: A quick warning that THE 8 GATES moderators are instructed to follow the GURPS rules and let the dice fall where they may. It is run by old school adventurers who recognize that sometimes the solution is not to fight, especially if you haven't done your homework on what you're up against. Reckless characters can find a quick end to their adventures. With great risk is possible reward, but not always, and there is no guarantee of survival for your favorite character. Player recovery after death is almost non-existent.
- There is currently a one character per member limit.
